Today's tip and topic is on the mighty Vagus Nerve! What is it: part of the parasympathetic nervous system. The "rest & digest" system. It reaches from the brain to the gut, hitting the heart, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidney, spleen, lungs neck, ears, tongue and sex organs. What can an imbalance show: (although many of these symptoms can be caused by other imbalances, the VN can very likely be the cause, especially if you've "tried everything!" and have still found no relief) weight gain, IBS, depression, chronic fatigue, high or low heart rate, heart burn, fainting and inflammation to name a few. What does the VN affect: Brain- helps control anxiety & depression Heart- controls heart rate and BP, lowers risk of heart disease Liver & Pancreas- helps control and balances blood glucose Gallbladder- helps release bile = getting toxins out and break down fat Kidneys- promotes general kidney function by increasing blood flow and lower BP Spleen- decreases inflammation Sex organs- increase infertility and orgasms Tongue - helps control taste and saliva Eyes - tears Ears- tinnitus Did you know? : satiety and relaxation feeling after a meal is activation of the VN! Do you ever cough when cleaning your ears, plucking or tickle ears? Yep VN! And it also influences the release of Oxytocin!! 😁 So how can you stimulate the VN? : there are many ways but here are my favorites. Coffee enema - "sprints for your VN" Coughing or tensing your stomach muscles (which makes laughing even better!) Singing Yoga and exercise Positive social relationships Cold showers and air Trauma can cause an imbalance but it may even be genetic! "selfdecode" Genome testing from #23andme can help. SNP (rs6330) is associated with low vagal activity and high anxiety. @selfhacked #vagusnerve #health #anxiety #depression #weightloss #trauma #eatingdisorder #mentalillness #gutissues #fainting #Inflammation #ms #Fibromyalgia
