Nothing like a good book (a real life, hold it in your hands, book) to take us away from our troubles. It can also teach us, make us think and inspire us.
It doesn't matter what kind of genre it is, as long as it engages us and takes us into its midst, it will work.
Does it make you smile? Does it make you think about it during the day? Can you relate to a character?
