Today I'm starting a movement. That's right. A week and a half ago I went back to using a "dumb" phone. Why? Because I am too overstimulated, on information overload, too distracted and my adrenals were exhausted! I felt like I was running on adrenaline constantly. LIterally- my body would actually shake like I was on a very high dose of caffeine! Have you had those thoughts and goals of "I'm not touching my phone today!", " Only checking Instagram once today!", "Ok, only from 10am -12pm", only to.....fail miserably by 5pm saying "ah, I'll start tomorrow"? So I had to physically remove the source of the problem. I now only have my smartphone to blog post first thing in the morning and check messages right before bed at night. That's it. My main phone is now a tiny little flip phone that takes 10 min to form a text (which in turn forces me to not text at all), go through several clicks and grunts to find my camera for a picture (I literally now only have 4 pictures on my phone instead of 3,400...and I"m not posting any of them, cause.. why?? Why does the world need to know what your darling 3 year old said? That's for you to know and cherish and them to...not have more taking up their brain space!. And don't even get me started on group texts- won't do them, it's chaos. The result- I take my kids to the park and sit and read a book. Remember those? I have actual thoughts while I'm driving instead of listening to messages. Remember thinking for yourself? I stand in line at the store and look around. I might even have a random conversation with an elderly man (cause they would be the only other one off their phone) and it's nice! Connect with nature (that's my favorite part). You can even hear your intuition better ;) No more sitting on the couch watching a show while also on my phone cause apparently I need one device for each of my adrenals. Now, at first, I would almost get anxiety sitting there, reaching over for my phone (that wasn't there) when a commercial would start or even just every 20 seconds. It's like my mind and body is on a timer- "ah! been sitting too long without continual stimulation...must grab phone". But now, I don't think about it! I"ve started reprogramming myself! Did you know? 63% of people would rifle through the garbage to get their phone. 59% in the toilet! 11% rather leave the house without pants than without their phone. And in all seriousness- each year there are 3000 texting & driving deaths (2700 from drinking and driving..and this was 2011!) So- I'm challenging you. Cut out the distractions, the noise, the worry, the mundane, and the overstimulation! And go back to thinking for yourself, focusing on your family, actually finish those projects you started before you got a phone! Have real conversations with people! And enjoy the freedom. Remember how amazing you are and that you don't need anyone or anything online telling you so. Yes, there are wonderful things online! But the point is you don't NEED them. You'll be just fine. I promise. #LetGoLookUp #NoPhoneFreedom #rediscover
