I wanted to start a new hashtag on Saturdays about just keeping it real. Sometimes it might seem like we have it all together in my household and.... It's not always true lol. It's very much a human experience around here. This morning I cleaned up purple stained cupboards from spilled Elderberry juice from a syrup making session at 10pm. Then had lunch while the toddlers ran Applebee's. Yes, we were probably "those people" but made it a good time! Today hasn't ended in tears yet and still going strong but other days consist of tears while mom hides in the Pantry. Be strong and of good spirits! One of my favorite mantras is "take every opportunity" because I have never, not once yet, regretted it. This would normally be an open discussion on #thursdaythoughts but I felt like it was to be posted today, and really, it DOES create wellness! Wellness of mind, body, and soul. so-- 📖is there a situation that sticks out to you when you read this?? 👇 Life changing points! 👇 *Your “real life” is out there waiting for you. Your real life exists beyond the bubble of your own personal thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. Your real life is the sum total of ALL of your experiences, not just the one’s you’re comfortable with. *Challenging yourself pushes you to dip into and utilize your personal store of untapped knowledge and resources. You have no idea what you’re made of unless and until you venture outside of your own familiar world *Taking risks, regardless of their outcome, are growth experiences. Even if you make mistakes or don’t get it right the first time there’s always these experiences you’ve had to tap into for the future. There really is no such thing as “fail” if you got something out of the experience. And just so you know, “FAIL” re-framed means “first attempt in learning”. *Don’t settle for the mediocre just to avoid stepping out of your comfort zone; it’s too big a price to pay. As you do this you are also expanding the size of your comfort zone. *Leaving your comfort zone ultimately helps you to deal with change---and making change in a much better way." This is really something that I meditated on for a whole summer last year. I used to have debilitating anxiety that came with change and I was determined to retrain my brain! This week our assignment is adding 21lbs of Wheat to our food storage. Now- we've talked about wheat before. Wheat and wheat berries become flour. You'll need a grain mill. (however, you can you the berries if you like that breakfast cereal and even use the berries in place of rice or meat! But most common is making flour). You can get an inexpensive hand mill (especially great if you have no electricity!! but an electric one might serve you better (faster). You'll want to store it in a mylar bag or #10 can with an oxygen absorber (but I've stored it short term just in a 5 gallon bucket in a cool place) While we're at it, practice (or find!) your favorite bread, roll, scone, cake, muffin recipe! You won't want to store something you'll never use or don't know how to use. Did you know that just like the ebb and flow the moon and tides, there is an ebb and flow to OUR own bodies and systems?! Our bodies are made up of about 60% water so no wonder we are so in sync with the phases of the moon and our bodies cycle in the same way! Have you ever had a day that you just had the motivation to take on something you’ve never done before like learning how to bottle a batch of tomatoes?? Or plant an entire garden? Update your blog or start a new one? Or Spring clean?! And this energy and hunger could go on for days or weeks! But then suddenly like you hit a brick wall, you can’t even muster the will to empty the dishwasher? And what do we do?? We let that little voice in that says “Ugh, you suck today! I’ll never get anything done. I’m soooo lazy wahhhh”. Instead- I want you to realize that this ebb and flow or “season” happens! And is not just normal but is a gift to our mind, body and souls! To expect yourself to wake up feeling exactly the same way tomorrow morning as you did today is a misunderstanding of how forces in your body operate. When you expect your body to feel fabulous day in and day out, you continuously feel betrayed when it falls short. When you learn about and live this new way of thinking- this place of cyclicality, on a day you feel run down you might decide to take a nice leisurely walk instead of hitting the gym or tackle ONE room of the house that needs cleaning instead of being hard on your self for not “getting it ALL done!” ---simply because you *think* it’s what you *should* be doing. In the lifestyle of respecting your cycle- had you gone to that boot camp class instead of respecting your body and mind and taking that nature walk- you would have most likely been left feeling tired and let down from not performing to the level of your *expectations*. AH HA! Learning about a cyclical life you’ll develop a degree of sensitivity and will be able to adjust things lie food, exercise, sleep and pleasure the way it’s supposed to be according to your daily and monthly cycle.
